This variety of Rhus has the upper hand as not only is it less vigorous than straight Rhus typhina, which means less suckering and problematic growth, but it also has outstanding cut foliage which turns to a flame red come winter. Quite outstanding yet also demanding!

Cultivation tips: This hardy small tree is often avoided because of its invasive growth and irritant sap. It flourishes in any fertile well drained / dry soil, even chalk. Rhus prefers and open sunny spot for good autumn leaf colour. Cut back suckers in early spring.
