Feather reed is grown largely for its late summer and autumn impact, when lush green foliage sinesces to produce outstanding golden foliage which fine plumes of golden white flowers. This plant is grown for its vertical impact, with dense annual foliage providing an impressive winter screen of compact golden foliage and flower. Plant alongside other grasses of within a mixed border.
Cultivation tips:
Calamagrostis prefers a spot in full sun but will put up with part shade. This upright ornamental grass will tolerate most soils just as long as they are well drained - even poor sandy or chalky soils. Mulch every few years and be prepared to cut back invasive roots and cut back last years growth in winter to wncourage lush new foliage.
