Calendula is a fantastic plant if you require quick results with a minimum of fuss. Expect plants to seed and spread quickly and easily. This is fine if you like orange but they can easily become a weed if you are fussy about your colour schemes. Marigold works exceptionally well with vegetables and herbs where it will seed into and provide a great splash of orange.

Cultivation tips: Marigold is a fast growing reliably easy to grow annual that will flourish all but the poorest and heaviest soils. Calendula prefers dry soils in full sun but is tolerant of most soil types and light levels. Sow direct in spring or autumn into raked soil and thin to 20 - 30cm between plants. Lift and compost after flowering and expect plants to freely seed into beds and borders.
