Foeniculum is an edible herb that grown for its masses of attractive frothy purple foliage. It suites planting in the herb garden, on the allotment or as a foliage foil plant among herbaceous perennials. Its upright fast growing habit can be a problem, it needs plenty of space and can out grow its neighbours.
Cultivation tips: Fennel is a hardy herbaceous plant flourishes is fine sandy or chalky dry soils in position in full sun. Pinch out new growth points to encourage denser foliage and mulch in autumn to protect roots.
